My dog Sasha is 65 pounds, and used to literally flop down in front of her food and water bowl. She simply loved to lay down to eat. But in recent years, we noticed it was harder for her to get up, plus this is not the best for digestion which also slows as your dog ages. With a few little tweaks to your older dog's day, they can still enjoy life with you. If you don't make any changes they will begin to experience pain, or will simply avoid scenarios that they know will hurt. Life gets busy, and routines keep everything ticking along, but maybe take the time to watch your dog with his or her own routines and watch for changes or avoidance. Using raised dog bowls is another way to make it easier for the larger dog to digest their food, and avoids the getting up from the floor issue they may experience if they are having trouble with stiff joints or arthritis. At the same time they don't have to be ugly! If you click the link below you can see an entire page of options. |
