My dog Sasha loved her treats, but some of the commercial brands upset her older tummy. But I found the ingredients in this recipe were easy for her to digest and so easy to make.
This recipe is basic and smells awesome while baking. If your dog can't tolerate cows milk, you could use goats milk or just water. Most dogs can tolerate natural peanut butter and oats. I also use whole wheat flour instead of white.
Great Homemade Gift Idea for any Dog Lovers on Your List
If you are on a budget (as most of us are) you can create your own shapes, or you can also get the bone shape cutters online below. I love how she uses mason jars and cute labels so that you are not only giving the gift of doggy treats that you made with love, but also a cute cookie jar!
All you need after cutting them out and baking them, is some nice jars as she has in the video, but you can get creative and use any container. The dollar store sells cute cookie tins that you could add a label to, or whatever you have available at home.
Recipe Ingredients From Video 2 x cups of flour 1 x cup of milk 1 x cup of rolled oats 1 x cup of peanut butter 2 x tablespoons baking powder (not baking soda!)
Method: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl. Once all dry ingredients are combined, stir in the milk while mixing. Once stirred at peanut butter until a soft dough forms. Place the dough on a floured surface (to stop sticking) Roll the dough until it is flat and approx. 1/2 inch thick. Start cutting out the shapes Place on an un-greased cookie sheet Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown. The small ones should take about 8 minutes and the larger ones a bit more. So you will have to gauge.
I also found these really cute cookie cutters in different shapes such as the dog, house, paw print and the bones shapes online. Just click the pictures to find out more. You could mix and match the shapes for the gifts. Then get creative with this paw print stamp on a homemade card or as a tag like she did in the video.
You can make lovely dog lover gifts yet on the cheap by dressing up the container they are in. Would also make a nice hostess gift.
